Winter smashes up against fall before we expect it, and that's why...

I call it "Winfall."

Not by coincidence, it is closely associated to a certain word.

windfall

noun

  • an unexpected, unearned, or sudden gain or advantage

The mixing of seasons of winter and fall certainly does create a "winfall" of imagery that I hope you enjoy.

I was barely out my front door when I had to capture this amazing scene. Background clouds would slowly move their way over the trees and unveil the beautiful sunlight that made the ice crystals shimmer.

My discovery led me to a nearby stream where I found the ducks discovering the scenes with me.

Icy trees aligned the stream and the coloring and mood was just amazing.

Around the bend, I entered the shadows where the sun highlighted the scene and amazing leaves.

The air was so cold at this moment but suddenly a cloud broke open and the sun bathed the landscape in amazing light.

Winfalls are rare and extraordinary, especially where I live.

I can't wait for the next time winter decides to crash autumn's party.  I'll be there with my camera.
