My home state of South Dakota...
is probably best known for the western side--the Badlands and Black Hills. This is where our beloved Mt. Rushmore resides. These bizarre, rugged, alien-like landscapes are quite different than anything else in the United States, and it's hard to dispute that.
But....
Plopped in the middle of the state, just a few miles west of Gettysburg, lies a secret haven called Whitlock Resort. It sits on the Missouri River and there's plenty of fishing and water fun to be had.
Maybe a few beverages.
Kyle, what are you up to this weekend?
I'm going to South Whitlock.
I say this casually like it's New York City.
I then see a blank stare, followed by "Where?"
I attempt to explain what this place is all about.

Despite fighting the mosquitoes, this calm morning was totally worth it.
The early light cast beautiful shadows on the landscape.
While on a boat many years ago, the water patterns and sun aligned just right.
It seems like every angle of this place has its beauty.
This particular morning seemed like a painting.
A early evening storm passes through, leaving some magical light.
This path leads to the magical sunsets at Whitlock Resort.
This immense open space let's you breathe easily.
I waited patiently as the sun peaked above the horizon and lit all of the mysteries of the landscape.
The evening was calm and quiet, and I enjoyed capturing this.
