It was a spectacular morning at Split Rock Lighthouse in Minnesota.
I'm a little sad as I write this to realize that despite living in Minnesota for about seven years, I had not taken a trip to the famous part of Northern Minnesota they call the North Shore. Many colleagues and friends would always joke that they were "heading North" for the weekend, but I didn't even realize what I was missing.
I look forward to showing you all the treasures that are found on the North Shore in Minnesota, but for now, my single focus was on the famous Split Rock Lighthouse.
I trekked up and stayed overnight close to the Lighthouse for a morning visit.
Let's just say I was not only not disappointed, but I was overwhelmed and overjoyed by the conditions that were brought to me on this beautiful daybreak at Split Rock Lighthouse.
As I stumbled with my headlamps around the area to find where I could set my camera up, I was soon presented with amazing sunrise colors.
Clouds became to morph and catch the rising sun. I was so consumed with capturing the scene that I didn't even realize the shape of this cloud until I looked at it on my computer. See the fish?
Minute by minute, the light flooded the clouds and lit up the sky. It was magical.
I wanted to get a wider view of this amazing scene taking place in front of me as I stood perched on the rocks of the shoreline looking down.
Soon, the sun was up and was starting to get blocked once again by the clouds. The waters of Lake Superior started to churn.
I found this wonderful path that led to the Lighthouse in the distance and now the fall colors were revealed.

Later that day, I had to come back to catch more light spotlighting the peninsula of the lighthouse.
