Three panel artwork means three separate pieces, which inevitably comes with more materials, labor, and a higher price tag. People love the look of these types of 3 panel artworks, and I wanted to figure out a way to achieve the same look.

The idea has been living in my head for quite sometime, but I finally helped a client achieve a triptych look but by using only one canvas. Sure, it’s cheating, but I really like how it turned out.

It was fairly straightforward. I took a white background and a black background and basically mounted the three split images over the top of it. The result is a single canvas that still gives the unique symmetry and visual intrigue that three panel artworks create. The client ended up choosing the black one, and mostly had to do with matching his space. This will look great on any wall color, and I’m excited to explore this methodology for future projects.
