One beautiful April afternoon, I was out flying kites with the kids and was amazed by what is called a "sun halo."  These are pretty rare here in South Dakota, and "sun dogs" are more common here in the winter.

A mix of chemistry, physics and geometry are the main components for sun halos.  If you want to geek out and learn more, you can do so at the weather channel.

Enjoying the warm weather let me lay down flat and start shooting the kites as they interacted with the sun halo.

I really enjoy the combination of two elements that are so vibrant and uplifting and this remains one of my favorite compositions.

I named it MUTUAL since the two kites seemed to enjoy the mutual feeling.
